Sonoma Valley Hospital is proud to offer Free EKG screening to high school and collegiate athletes playing organized sports, between the ages of 15-21 years old.

An EKG is a painless, non-invasive test that can identify some students at risk for sudden cardiac death. While not 100% effective, an EKG can detect about half of the markers that can lead to sudden cardiac death.

 • There is no charge for this screening exam

• Athletes should dress in comfortable, loose clothing

• Girls should wear a sports-type bra

• All athletes must bring completed consent/health history form with them. Athletes under 18 years of age must have the form signed by a parent and brought with them at the time of their appointment. Athletes without a signed form will not be tested. Forms can be obtained in advance of screening by calling 707.935.5045

 • EKG’s will be read by Sonoma Cardiologist James Price, MD

• Athletes with abnormal EKGs will be referred to their family physician for follow up. Results are confidential and the test results will be mailed to the student-athlete (or their parents if under 18 years of age) after review by the cardiologist

• Copies of the EKG will not be retained by Sonoma Valley Hospital

• Student-athletes must be 15 years of age or older.

WHERE: Sonoma Valley Hospital, Cardiopulmonary Department

WHEN: May 15th 3-5pm; May 18th 10a-2pm; May 22nd 3-5pm

*Roughly, 75-100 teenagers and young adults die in the United States each year during athletic events, most often from undiagnosed heart problems.
